Candidate Profile

  • Holds a relevant education or internationally recognised shipping qualification.
  • Proven office experience within an owning or managing company.
  • Possesses an understanding of commercial aspects related to vessels’ maintenance and performance.
  • Capable of handling challenging and sometimes stressful situations, with the ability to negotiate and make technical decisions.
  • Clear communicator, both verbally and in writing.
  • Confident in conducting risk assessments and accident investigations and in preparing concise reports.
  • Previous experience in people management, including staff evaluations.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Daily monitoring of vessel movements and performance (consumption, weather advisory, and day-to-day operations).
  • Liaise with agents, distributors, and national and international authorities for smooth operations.
  • Daily issuance and monitoring of jobs for the vessel crews for company vessels.
  • Supervise operations and monitor vessel condition and crew compliance. Ensure all operations are carried out safely, with due regard for environmental protection, and in accordance with all applicable legal requirements.
  • Responsible for operational-related issues, including correspondence.
  • Liaise directly with company management and respond to any client operational questions.
  • Assist with company budgets and implement strategies assigned by company directors.
  • Oversee the recruitment, selection, and management of crews for all vessels. This includes sourcing qualified personnel, ensuring compliance with regulations and certifications, coordinating crew rotations, managing crew welfare, and handling administrative tasks related to crewing.
  • Maintain management systems, including but not limited to the PMS, ISO, records, and reporting.
  • Prepare company vessels for inspections and organise all certifications as required by the flag of registry and local authorities.
  • Conduct and maintain records of safety inspections onboard company vessels.
  • Review procedures or other inspection observations and deficiencies, and work with the vessel to track them through to resolution.
  • Responsible for the company’s (PLO & OC) operations (taking orders, organising, and distributing jobs accordingly). Maintain good relations with company clients and authorities, and endeavour to meet their requirements.
  • Ensure continuous operational readiness of personnel and equipment in all aspects.
  • Respond to, record, investigate, and report to directors any accidents, near-misses, and non-conformities during company operations.
  • Participate in expanding the company’s business and improving efficiency.
  • Assist in managing pollution incident response operations, including situation assessment, health and safety management, communications with relevant parties and authorities, record-keeping and reporting, overall management of personnel and equipment, coordination of clean-up operations and containment, internal communications, situation reporting to company directors, and cleaning/maintenance of equipment post-operation.
  • Coordinate and assist in ESG reports and inspections.
  • Undertake any other tasks and duties as required by company directors.
